Hot topic: Maybe THIS is the reason our health costs are so high
"I took my 19 mo old for his well-visit check up last month. The doctor wanted a urine sample. I am not going to go into the whole "she needed this sample bc she screwed up 3 months prior to that and was covering her ass" story, bc at this point it was irrelevant. They weren't able to collect the sample that day, so I had to bring him in the next day. I get a bill today for my copay for the second day. So, I call them and "remind" them that it wasn't another office visit, we were just there to give the sample, AND if they would have done their job properly to begin with, I wouldn't have to be there the next day. After about 20 minutes of explaining to her what a huge waste it was, office manager told me that I don't have to pay the copay. I told her that if I had any say at all, I would advise my insurance company not to pay for the entire visit bc 1) it was completely unnecessary and 2) it shouldn't be charged as an office visit in the tune of $200. I cannot even imagine how much unnecessary costs are being charged to the patients, insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid. Is it any wonder that the costs are sky-rocketing? "
